CINI is implementing a district wide intervention in four high burden districts of Odisha – Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Keonjhar in partnership with UNICEF. The objective of the program is to improve Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices at the household level. It was realized that there were various contact points like Ante Natal Check-ups,immunization days and at Nutrition Rehabilitation Centres where the mothers and pregnant women could also be counselled to ensure that the same message is going across. To achieve the objective, ANMs of all the four districts were decided to be trained on the optimal feeding practices. Till date, (Jan-March, 2020) the ANMs of 3 districts of Rayagada, Keonjhar and Nabarangpur have been trained on optimal feeding practices. The one day training covered important aspects of breastfeeding, complementary feeding including age-appropriate quantity, consistency and frequency with focus on food diversity as well. The one day training adopted a more of interactive learning sessions where the mode of teaching was discussion and demonstration. The audio-visual aids were also used for the training. About 1000 ANMs have been trainedwith the trainings to be completed in the next quarter.
