Murshidabad is one of the most vulnerable districts in West Bengal in the context of child protection indicators like child marriage, child trafficking, teenage pregnancy etc.In order to address these child protection issues, CINI is constantly giving support towards creating community based monitoring system through strengthening of Child Protection Committees (CPC) at village level. Thus, the District administration in collaboration with CINI undertook an initiative towards conducting training of CPCs on child protection issues and their roles and responsibilities. In this last quarter, CINI conducted training of Village Level Child Protection Committees (VLCPC) representatives across 150 Gram Panchayats in Murshidabad district. The capacity building exercise was accompanied by vulnerability assessment exercise at the Gram Sansad level to understand the prioritized issues of risks faced by the children in different geographies.
This exercise resulted in creating a forum of understanding among the Child Protection Committee (CPC) members regarding their roles and responsibilities. As a result a regular inflow of month-wise CPC reports to the Block administration have started. Further the vulnerability assessment exercise has helped in identification of Gram Sansads which are extremely vulnerable.
