The National Girl Child Day was celebrated on 24th January, 2020 in Assam and Jharkhand, with the purpose to spread awareness among the community about all the inequalities girls face in their day-to-day life. The purpose was to spread awareness on importance of empowering Adolescent Girls and sensitizing them on various issues which are the biggest hurdles for their empowerment, such as school dropout, child marriage, gender discrimination in the society, etc. In Assam, the day was observed in Raniganj Block of Dhubri where a Panel discussion was organised among the adolescents on the topic of the importance of national girl child day. In Jharkhand, events were organised at Block and Panchayat level in the intervention areas of Simdega and Saraikela districts. It was also time to felicitate some of the best Peer Educators who through their motivation and skills continue to play an important role in strengthening the community and the peers.
