Overall Objectives: The Uttar Dinajpur Field Unit focuses on improving the conditions of deprived women and children in the realms of education, protection, health and nutrition. Special attention is paid to the first 1000 days of life, when maternal and child health interventions are given emphasis to address high MMR and IMR status, low immunisation rates, malnutrition, anaemia and soaring HIV/AIDS prevalence. In the area of education, interventions focus on contributing to the implementation of the Right to Education Bill, by addressing low female literacy rates, gender disparity and high drop-out levels. In the sphere of child protection, priority is given to early marriage, child labour and cross-border trafficking.
