Hurdles are there in mind not in body – Siddhartha’s story set an example

Hockey has always fascinated Siddhartha from a young age. However, he was not encouraged or supported by his parents due to his hearing disability from early childhood. Moreover, his mental development was thwarted due to his parent’s ignorance and unwillingness to admit him to a school. However, he was admitted to Balishar Vidyalaya where proper attention and support was not paid by his teachers.

Siddhartha’s road to transformation began with CINI in the year 2015 when he started coming to one of our centres. It was not easy and had numerous hurdles. Other than communication support, he was given training on lifeskill, disability rights and child rights. He was given educational support with regular counselling sessions. Siddhartha was admitted to Khanna High School for Boys. During this time, with CINI’s encouragement and support, Siddhartha was taken to Kamarhati playground for initiation of his hockey coaching. With gradual improvement, Siddhartha was included in thepara hockey team and took part in various district level competitions and recently participated in NCC Hockey Championship for para-athletes held in Punjab and his team won the match! Siddhartha is in class 12 now and chasing his dream of representing India in International Para Olympics.
