State Level Convention on Early marriage-“Chaar Baatein” Campaign for active youth engagement

A state level convention on Early Marriage was organized on 5th October, 2018 at Ranchi in Jharkhand. It was chaired by Dr. D K Sasena, Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development and participated by NGOs partners, SCPCR members, presidents of 4 Zilla Parisads and Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members (11 Districts). The initiative has been taken to promote adolescents on their rights, mobilise families of adolescents and community-based networks for change in existing norms, attitudes, beliefs and practices that contributes in child marriage and other harmful practices, linkage with relevant services and strengthen implementation of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act  through promoting adolescent peer group interaction at village/slum level.The major decision taken was to engage youths through ‘Chaar Baatein’ campaign and this will be led by PRIs in their respective Panchayats through Gram sabhas.
