January 18th, 2019 |

Analysing the situation after one year (2017-2018) of the project (‘Care of Under and Un-served Women and Children of Urban Slums of Kolkata and Siliguri Cities during first 1000 days of life’) CINI found that lesser number of pregnant women in Siliguri slums had completed 4 ANC. In addition, IFA and calcium consumption in Kolkata and Siliguri are also very restricted and a very limited percentage of pregnant women avail services under Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme. It was also found out that women not taking proper care during pregnancy resulted in low birth weight baby.  To address all these issues stimulating games were organized in 5 wards of Siliguri and 4 wards of Kolkata involving pregnant women along with their family member, Anganwadi workers, health workers and others.

Objective of the program:

  • Creating awareness among the pregnant women about the do’s and don’ts during pregnancy.
  • Motivating the frontline workers for creating a safety net in the community so that the pregnant women can access all the services available.
  • Motivating the family members to take special care of the pregnant women during the pregnancy period.
