CHILD AND WOMAN FRIENDLY COMMUNITY (CWFC) |
|
Civil
societies are fast emerging as one of the most powerful
sources of voicing the needs and rights of the poor and
marginalized. This holds true especially in the context
of children and women who form the most vulnerable
sections of the society. With the gradual decentralization
of the governance system, marked by the 73rd
& 74th Amendment Acts of the Indian
Constitution, the government hopes that would be greater
participation of people in the overall process of
development.
The
institutional approach of Child and Woman Friendly
Community (CWFC) is the culmination of CINI's learning
for over three decades while working with the
communities on issues related to education, protection,
health and nutrition.
CINI adopts the role of a facilitator with the local
legislative bodies, service providers and community
members being the three key stakeholders in the process. This learning has resulted in the
evolution of a model child and woman friendly community
that ensures access to the rights and entitlements of
every woman and child in society. The approach aims to
strengthen dialogue between the local legislative
bodies, the service providers and the communities that
effectively form the three stakeholders.
CWFC
is CINI’s institutional approach and
is reflected in various strategies undertaken by
the divisions/units of the organisation.
CWFC’s
goal is to accelerate
the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
of education, protection, health and nutrition (EPHN) by
creating child and woman-friendly communities.

bodies, the service providers and the community.

Advocacy
at all levels: It focuses on advocating at all levels from
Panchayats to the Parliament for creating an
enabling environment for children and women
based on programme learning and challenges.
