"CINI'S CRUSADE TOWARDS AN AIDS FREE WORLD"

Why focus on HIV/AIDS?

With the creation of BANDHAN, CINI pledged its commitment to combat the increasing magnitude of HIV / AIDS in rural belt of South 24 Parganas district and other parts of West Bengal.

"Bandhan" aims to deal with specific issues pertaining to HIV / AIDS and particularly those concerning the lives of positive people in a wider spectrum through community initiatives.

Community based HIV/AIDS initiatives of CINI are geared towards minimizing risk behaviors in order to contain the spread of the disease and to ensure better quality of life for HIV/AIDS infected women, young people and children in a holistic manner through a life-cycle based approach.

Her reason to smile

Farida (not her real name) is 10 years old and she she is HIV Positive. She was living happily with her parents and siblings in a village in South 24 Parganas  when the disaster stuck her. Her father died of AIDS and she was detected HIV positive through our community based VCT programme. The family was referred to us through our linkage with the local Panchyat. l the mother was worried about her child's frequent illness. She was brought to CINI and given the necessary support through our Care and Support Programme. The support that was extended to them included pathological support, nutritional management through In Care Facility, treatment for opportunistic infection and counseling, Initially, they did face a lot of stigma from their community but gradually the situation eased. Though the adversity of the virus is too complex for her understanding, she is hopeful and optimistic and has started believing that miracles do happen
