The city of joy, Kolkata, has thousands of children who live in appalling conditions on streets or railway platforms, or in markets, slums and squatter colonies. Surviving on the edge, these vulnerable children are exposed to physical, economic and sexual exploitation. CINI ASHA was launched in 1989, in response to the silent cry of these deprived children. It seeks to improve the quality of life of urban disadvantaged population and protect the rights of the child through education, health and social mobilization.

The primary beneficiaries of CINI ASHA programmes are:

Street children
Children living in slums and squatter colonies
Children of sex workers
Slum dwellers
