Child In Need Institute
(CINI), a leading Non
Government Organization of India founded in Kolkata in 1974 has
been working to achieve sustainable development among poor
communities living in the city of Kolkata, South 24 Parganas and
surrounding areas. Through its field programmes, training and research, the
focus has always been on health of women and children, child
nutrition and development, adolescent issues and mainstreaming
street children through education.

In 1998 CINI was been recognised as
a National Mother NGO, under
the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) program by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,
Government of India. |
Since then CINI has been functioning as
MNGO for eight districts of West Bengal namely Kolkata, 24
Parganas (S), Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, Midnapur, Birbhum, Tamluk.
As Mother NGO it supports a network of Field NGOs in advocacy
and IEC (Information Education Communication) activities for awareness generation on RCH including
safe motherhood, quality care for infants, immunisation,
counselling on STD / HIV, adolescent issues, etc.
The National Institute of
Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW),
New Delhi has also recognised CINI as a Collaborative Training
Institute since November 1998. It is primarily involved in RCH
training activities in seven North Eastern states of India. Its

CINI reaches out to more than
1,10,000 of the rural population in South 24 Parganas, 2,50,000
of the urban
poor population in Kolkata, more than 5,000 street children in
Kolkata and 1,000 sex workers in four rural red light areas. |

To fulfil its mission CINI
works through four divisions: Child Health and Development,
Women's Health, Adolescent Health and Monitoring, Evaluation and
Research.

Child
Health and Development Division is
primarily involved in implementing child health and
nutrition related projects for children below three
years within the Life
Cycle Approach strategy.

Women
Health Division
matches its activities to the mission of CINI
by ensuring and providing sustainable health and
nutrition development of women and children in need. A
gamut of women's health specific programs are addressed to promote better
reproductive and sexual health.

Adolescent
Health Division seeks
to contribute meaningfully and effectively towards
improving adolescent and youth (10 to 24 years) status.
The Adolescent Resource Centre is involved in
research, documentation, training and technical capacity
building, contributing towards the development of
policies and programs through policy analysis, advocacy and information
dissemination.

Monitoring,
Evaluation and Research Division undertake
baseline surveys, data analysis and
interpretation, on the basis of which ongoing projects
are reviewed and adapted. It also carries
out research and pilot studies as required.
